Something About Me

I have spent most of my life wondering…about what is meaningful, about who I am and who others are, about the natural world of which I find myself belonging to, about the nature of suffering and unhappiness, of melancholy and joy and love and destruction.

And some of it wandering, mainly barefoot…..and I have travelled to places where people’s stories of creation, meaning, living and dying are very different from those ofwhere I grew up.

I have learned that there are many different stories, many different ways of seeing, feeling, and living in this complicated lifeworld.

My Life Philosophies

I live and work….

Existentially – I believe that all of us inevitably struggle with life’s tensions and complexities; life and death, belonging and isolation, freedom and responsibility, meaning and meaninglessness. Being in the lifeworld existentially involves accepting the unavoidability of these tensions, and exploring ways to live more fully with these in mind. It also involves being alive to some of the darkness, limitations and losses we face, and sitting with the internal conflict we may experience when we have choices to make.

Phenomenologically– I am curious about our experiences of the world, how we see and feel it, and how we make sense of it. I am interested in the ‘here and now’ of our lives, and how we all work together in the room (virtualy!). I like to take the everyday, and see it afresh, in new and strange ways. I invite those I work with to explor etheir physical environment, to move within it differently, to find unfamiliarity and freshness in old familiar things, to challenge themselves to see with different eyes.

Ecopsychologically– We do not exist in isolation, and I believe that our ‘self’ is wider than just our own body or mind. Part ofyour journey to discover who we are, is to know ourselves better ‘in-the-world’ – as part of nature, part of a community, part of an ecology, and part of an ecosystem. When we work together we are bringing our different ecosystems together, we are sharing and co-creating something new which ripples out into the rest of the world we inhabit.

Creatively and holistically– I believe that in order to best explore our ideas about ourselves, our values, and our meaning-making, we need to find different ways to ask questions, express ourselves, and communicate our lives, stories, struggles and hopes. I use arts and collage, movement, nature-immersion, photography, dreamwork, meditation, journaling and storytelling to enable myslef, ad those I journey with, to explore and express more fully who we are.
